OpenFlow Suite 2020 is another step forward in the continuous development of Beicip-Franlab E&P software suite, with the release of numerous functionalities to enhance projects’ performance and gain time in both model building and post-processing tasks.
OpenFlow Suite is now also available on the CLOUD, which allows a global access to a high-performance and always up-to-date installation, sized to your operational needs.
This version is supported on Windows 7, Windows 10 and Linux RH6. TemisFlow and PumaFlow calculators are also compatible with Linux RH7.
It is important to note that OpenFlow Suite 2020 is the last version supported on both Windows and Linux operating systems. Starting from OpenFlow Suite 2021, the graphical interface will be distributed for Windows operating systems only. All the simulators will however remain available for both Windows and Linux systems to benefit from the latest cluster technologies you may have internally. Forward Stratigraphic Modeling

with DionisosFlowTM & CougarFlowTM

Building on its robust and proven parallel simulator, DionisosFlow 2020 aims at facilitating model parameterization and calibration for the benefit of both experienced and new users.
All Beicip-Franlab’s experience and references in using DionisosFlow for the last decade around the world is now accessible to all with many new default parameters to initialize stratigraphic models quickly and confidently. These include new eustatic curves, more than 10 empirical carbonate production laws, and an automatic calculation of transport coefficients based on sediments grain size.
On the post-processing side, it is now possible to easily quantify calibration using the new calibration indicators computation. These indicators can be computed from thickness, facies and/or Vshale information available from well data. Other facilities have also been added to the Log Viewer to speed-up display setup and ease comparison between runs.
Finally, this 2020 version brings a major improvement for risk analysis with CougarFlow 2020 with the possibility to run such workflows along well paths for a quantitative and robust assessment of reservoir, seal or source rock presence, connectivity and quality throughout the stratigraphic column.

Basin & Petroleum System Modeling

with KronosFlowTM, TemisFlowTM  & CougarFlowTM

KronosFlow 2020 brings many new functionalities to speed-up the work and enhance the user experience when building and analyzing 2D complex models.
Many restoration tasks have been eased, such as the definition of erosions, which can now be semi-automatically defined thanks to new options. The section validity in terms of contacts, critical to generate a valid simulation grid, can now also be checked and fixed in a single click with new dedicated tools.
The layering capability, key functionality of the application, has also been enhanced to handle eroded units and becomes a real game changer to stratigraphically refine a section after its restoration.
The last major feature of this version is a new Section Viewer, supporting unstructured grids, to improve run analysis and processing. Based on the same philosophy as the Map Editor, it allows an easy comparison of results with multiple displays, overlay of properties, contouring and much more.
On the classic side, after major works on the GeoGrid architecture, TemisFlow 2020 keeps answering our users’ need for more efficiency with three main objectives: facilitate models’ parameterization, accelerate simulation time, and optimize run analysis.
Among the main new features, a brand-new Paleo-Climate module based on IFPEN works is now available to automatically initialize surface temperatures from model’s location and bathymetry through time. Our basin modeling experts have also included their know-how and expertise within the Geochemical Library which has been enriched with a new and proven in-house 5 class kinetic scheme for 12 world-class marine and terrestrial kerogens, as well as more than 60 bulk kinetic models.
Several optimizations have been done on the simulator’s side to better handle models of tens of millions of cells. They can now run on less CPUs and the RAM is better managed in general resulting in faster simulations compared to previous versions.
Several post-processing tasks have been eased with new capabilities such as a dedicated Pressure Analysis Log, the possibility to use pre-defined templates for well calibration, or to save views’ configuration for a later display and comparison to other scenarios.
Finally, TemisFlow also benefits from CougarFlow 2020’s new capability to run sensitivity and risk analyses along well paths. Particularly interesting for pore pressure prediction, this new capability allows a quantitative and robust assessment of uncertainties at tentative well locations.

Fractured Reservoirs Characterization & Modeling

with FracaFlowTM

Reference solution for fractured reservoir modeling, FracaFlow 2020 has a two-fold objective: improving software ergonomics and stability and offering new possibilities to handle models with a very large number of cells.
The main evolutions were brought to the most memory and time-consuming modules such as the upscaling module, which can now run on several CPUs, and the fracture and fault modeling module, for which DFN calculations can be deported to a remote host.
FracaFlow’s users’ feedback has also been integrated through many enhancements in the following modules: Fracture Analysis, Fault Analysis, Fracture Density Log Computation, Stress Analysis, Fracture & Fault Modeling, and Automated KH Calibration.

Reservoir Simulation

with PumaFlowTM, PVTFlowTM & CougarFlowTM

PumaFlow’s transition towards a new generation reservoir simulation workflow, co-built by Beicip-Franlab, Kappa Engineering and IFPEN, is still on-going. While the new product is being designed and developed, PumaFlow 2020 keeps evolving to offer more robustness to its users with a focus on numerical issues and performance, especially for well convergence.
PumaFlow now has advanced options allowing to better control the time step with criteria depending on variations in wells rather than everywhere in the grid. It results in much robust and faster simulations.
The SWCTT guideline, available since PumaFlow 2018 and allowing easy analyses of residual oil saturation, has also been extended to all chemical workflows with two tracers.
Many users’ feedbacks have also been integrated through minor improvements and bug fixes in various modules of the application.
PumaFlow 2020 is still intimately connected to PVTFlow for fluids modeling and CougarFlow for uncertainty modeling and assisted history match.
